To this end, the organization - supports the scientific and professional work of computer scientists
The GI belongs to the Deutscher Verband Technisch-Wissenschaftlicher Vereine (DVT - an association of German sci-tech societies) and is a member of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). It also holds a seat and is authorized to vote in the foundation council of the Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation. Together with the universities of Karlsruhe, Kaiserlslautern and Saarbrücken, the GI is a responsible body of the International Conference and Research Center for Computer Science (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl, funded by the German Federal States of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It is - together with the Federal Republic of Germany, the Federal States and other organizations - one of the funding partners of FIZ Karlsruhe. Jointly with the Fraunhofer Society, the GI is responsible for the Bundeswettbewerb Informatik (a national informatics contest for German students), staged under the auspices of the Federal President. The German Computer Science Academy (DIA), which the GI initiated and in which it holds a majority, offers an ambitious training program in informatics.
